10th December 2010 - Wall of Eyes
The photos Reach and Scream are both from nightclubs. This is where my learning through experimental photography really begun to speed up as I tried to overcome the low light conditions combined with fast moving people and I feel I have learnt a lot about the social side of photography as well as using flash and long exposures. End of the Tunnel was the the result of another experiment with long exposure, but while I was in motion. This has given the photo a dreamlike quality as well as dealing with the lack of light. Similar to this I like to set myself challenges such as capturing the best picture I can of a certain animal during my lunch breaks, often which is in motion or hiding as in the photos Sorrow and Robin. I have been trying to improve my composition and I am always looking out for an image to capture. The Guildhall was formed from a somewhat unremarkable colour photo after extensive editing. Recently I have been concentrating a lot more on portraits and I have also had a lot of practice with my projects. I got asked to take photos for the performances of a collection of young artists at Real World Studios and here I took this photo of Zeeks. With these photos I am becoming much more aware of all the objects in the photo, the effects of aperture and bokeh. During the shooting of Looking Back I experimented with auto-bracketing so that I could combine several photos with HDR software and create stills image to be used within the film. I wanted these to be appear unusual instantly to create impact in their limited screen time.
I have created a dark and vivid, but also sharp, style that I look forward to continue to develop while covering my broad range of interests within photography. University is the best place for me to do this. I want direction and criticism from people with knowledge in the subject, to learn more of the work of past and present artists in literature, at exhibitions and also in person, and to concentrate on the context of my photos in much greater depth. I want to devote the majority of my time to photography as soon as possible. | |
